Land degradation and deforestation are the main environmental problems that are faced by local communities in Chigwere area in TA Nyaluwanga in Nkhata Bay district. CCEI is implementing tailor-made interventions aimed at protecting the ecosystem/catchment. Interventions under the project include; mapping of the Land Use Land Cover changes of Chigwere area; advocate for community-based policy or by-laws formulation to conserve natural environment or resources by setting up workshop for local leaders (Chiefs, VDC members, church leaders) and environmental experts including forest officers; establishment/revamping of Village Natural Resources Management Committees and Honey Bulking Group through participatory Approach; conduct training in compost manure and organic fertilizer making, natural tree regeneration, sustainable agricultural practices/climate smart agriculture; procure and distribute fruit tree seedlings; procurement and distributing of beehives among other activities.
